The goal of this work is to retrieve the historical memory of the aviators of the Second Republic of Spain. Their story has never been written because these men lived, for nearly forty years, defeated and exiled. When the dictatorship began, they spent years in jail or doing forced labor, and they could never go back to flying. This is their most bitter memory. Now they gather every Tuesday and Thursday at the “Asociación de Aviadores de la República”, a space on the ground floor of a building in the Guifré “calle”, in the Raval neighborhood of Barcelona. Between 1939 and 1975 they have lived scattered around, trying to survive, and were kept very far from their planes. After the death of the dictator, they met again. Now they are not so young anymore, but even as elderly they still believe in the value of freedom, the same freedom that motivated them to enlist, to soar in the skies, and to fight for a democratically elected government. The association obtained legal status in 1984, and since then it has helped its members to regain their titles and their retirement wages. Above all, it gave them back their lost honor.
